It feels like a long time since I have written. Life, work, and general distractions have gotten in the way and I have missed writing. So here goes…I have been trying to work during this heatwave and the chore of typing in the heat is no fun. My fingers just haven’t kept up with my thoughts so how about Dragon Speech Recognition Software when it’s just too hot to type?
What is it?
Dragon is voice-to-text, speech recognition software that works really well out of the box. They have a range of product options; from professional users down to a home user like me. Easy to install and it allows you to do more than just type documents and emails. You can use your voice to search the web, update your calendar, browse and update your social media and even chat. The makers claim;
Designed using Nuance Deep Learning technology, Dragon quickly transcribes words into text 3x faster than typing with up to 99% recognition accuracy. Dictate homework assignments, send email, surf the web and more—by voice.Dragon Home – Speech Recognition for Home Users | Nuance UK
Dragon provides cheat sheets and shortcuts so you can also post to Facebook, format documents with ease, copy and paste and more. If you are like me and have a terrible memory, you might want to print it out but looking at the commands they are pretty intuitive. Having had a play with the software, it is accurate, even with my accent as it is constantly adapting as you use it.
Who might use it?
Dragon is particularly suitable for those who have poor spelling, dyslexia, arthritis, and so on. However, I really think it is great for absolutely anyone who is short of time, dislikes typing, or correcting what they type. It does take a little while to get used to talking into your device but these days more people are used to doing this with the popularity of devices such as Amazon’s Alexa.
Nana Knows Verdict
Speaking into your computer or tablet might seem strange at first but it is easy to get the hang of it and with Dragon speech recognition software accuracy, you will spend less time editing. It is really easy to set up and if you have any difficulties with spelling or typing in general, or are like me and your thoughts are faster than your fingers, it is a great option to choose. It may seem a little pricey at £179.99 but it is money well spent and you will save time.
Microsoft Word has this functionality but having used it with my dulcet northern accent, I end up spending quite a bit of time proofreading and correcting. This is more frustrating than just typing! Take my advice and splash the cash on Dragon!
